Hi Everyone,

I’m new to instructional design and learning systems. As an elementary teacher, I am somewhat familiar with technology that supports instruction such as Google Classroom and Canva. I’m interested in learning more about how to incorporate digital tools into the classroom more creatively.

As far as instructional design goes, I want to gain knowledge on how to create interactive content that engages learners in meaningful learning versus simply pushing out content. I’m also curious about instructional design and technology as it applies to the real world (edtech, online courses, training, digital learning environments).

In terms of career goals, I hope to gain skills that allow me to work remotely in either instructional design or learning experience design from a large tech company or company that needs design work.

What skills are most important when trying to design interactive learning experiences?

  1. Lydia, I think an often overlooked part of designing interaction is getting in the head of the learner and thinking about what they are seeking out of and experiencing in an interaction. All too often we just follow theory, models (they're both important, I acknowledge) and designer preference/intuition. However, theory and models can only take us so far, and designers are usually expert users and have their own preferences and motivations that may not align with end user preference.

    1. So far, I know of the ADDIE model and the BEM model. Which models work well with e-learning or web design or does it depend on the individual situation?
