Can social media be a learning tool?

YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram. When you hear “social media”, do you think education? These are social media platforms that can facilitate education by allowing you to collect resources, share ideas, and collaborate with others to gain knowledge. We learn something new from social media every day and we do not even know it. The hard part is determining if you're just scrolling or learning.

    I subscribe to some professors who upload tips on how to take notes when reading papers. sharing knowledge like this is so helpful for students like me who unintentionally face those posts while wasting time watching goofy content

Teaching is not always easy. Thankfully there are online communities that offer teachers a place to connect with their peers. Education continues to change and grow as we learn new ways to help students learn. Online communities are a great way to learn from others and network. Are we really tagging people?

 Who are you talking to when you hashtag? Most humans think they are helping other humans discover their content. But what if we are talking to machines more than we are talking to humans? I’ve personally seen people alter how they write/type, when they post and even what they share based off of what they think the algorithm wants. Do you think social media is still primarily about connecting people, or has it become more about learning how to communicate?
