Do you believe learning tools help you learn?

Yearly there’s a new app/device/platform that will change education as we know it. But what if we aren’t asking the right questions about how we can use technology to learn?

One takeaway from Salomon’s reading that resonated with me was that technology is not the creator of learning. Technology may catch our attention with all of its bells and whistles, but learning is when that technology has an educational purpose.

We can look up information using technology. However, processing that information into knowledge takes thought, conversation, and application.

Thought: What are some EdTech tools that you have used that have enhanced your learning? Why?

  1. I agree that technology alone doesn't create learning. Sometimes we get so caught up in searching for the latest EdTech trend that we forget real learning takes effort, reflection, & practice.

Personally, platforms like YouTube and TikTok have helped me by introducing me to new ideas and viewpoints I might not have found on my own. I think their value comes from the people who make content and the conversations they spark.

  2. I agree! I find myself learning from YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram all the time, whether it's for teaching ideas, recipes, or even travel tips. I also liked your point that it's the people creating and sharing the content that make the learning meaningful, not just the platform itself.
