Using Social Media with Purpose

Simply inserting social media into education will not enhance learning. Teachers must know how to use these tools to provide meaningful learning activities with explicit learning intentions. To select appropriate technologies for my classroom as an elementary teacher, I try to focus on tools that promote collaboration, creativity, and engagement. If used purposefully, tools like social media and other web tools can assist in creating connected and engaging learning.

Question: Which Web tool do you feel has had the greatest influence on learning?

  1. Not sure I have an answer to this questions, but here is a question I have for you. When you create social media activities do you expect the students to use them in class, or at home for homework? So much of our lives take place in social media spaces, I wouldn't want to co-opt an in person space with a social media activity. I'd want them doing the activity face to face, in real time.
