Social Media Is More Than Entertainment

 Social media allows individuals to research new information, reach out to loved ones, and expand their business. With technology advancing and more people having access to smartphones and Wi-Fi access, social media is continuing to connect people from all around the globe. The digital divide is still an issue, as we must ensure everyone has equal access and know how to navigate these platforms.

    Hi Lydia, I agree with your point that social media connects people across the globe and creates many opportunities for communication, learning, and business. I also appreciate that you brought up the digital divide! Sometimes people talk about social media as if everyone has the same access and skills, but that is not always true. Your post also made me think about international learners. Even when people have access to social media, they may use different platforms depending on their country, culture, or community.

 Who are you talking to when you hashtag? Most humans think they are helping other humans discover their content. But what if we are talking to machines more than we are talking to humans? I’ve personally seen people alter how they write/type, when they post and even what they share based off of what they think the algorithm wants.
